Proposed alterations in London to the intersection of Golders Green Rd, Regents Park Rd, North Circular Rd, has prompted some interest in the nearby bronze sculpture by Emile Guillaume of La Délivrance. I lived in nearby Chessington Avenue when I was a child in the late 1930s through the 1940s. In 1979 in a collection of poems called "untold angels" I published the following:
THE NAKED LADY [2 songs
the naked lady
is made of bronze
the naked lady
has a sword in her right
hand the naked lady
stretches her sword up to heaven
on VJ night L.....D.......who is
six foot something & my aunt's cousin
put a bra & panties on the naked
lady while he was in his cups
the naked lady stands at Henly's Corner
on the North Circular
the naked lady haunted
my school days
from Golders Green to Henly's Corner
you went by trolleybus
& the conductor always said
anyone for
the naked
lady. I used
to live by
the naked lady
she stood in the
rain she stood in
the snow she stood
as my mnother & I
crosing over the road
slipped over
on black ice
no more of
the naked lady
